Google: Beyond Databases to Dataspaces
Tuesday, November 4th: 13:00

Google's Technological Innovations to Solve Data Management Challenges

In this tutorial, the attendee will learn about Google's dataspace technology. In 2005, Google acquired a small company and a team of brilliant engineers. Today, you can see a fragment of dataspace functionality in Google Forms. What's behind dataspaces? How are they different from databases? What new functions do dataspaces permit? And more importantly, can dataspace technology give Google the secret sauce it needs to grow its enterprise business?

You will learn about dataspaces and gain insight into this little known, but extremely interesting technology. Although explored by researchers for more than two decades, only Google has the computational resources and data to make the leap beyond database technology.

Attendees will have limited access to a reading list, screen shots of dataspace applications, and code snippets. No hard copies of this material will be made available to attendees, and access to the hard to find information will be limited to tutorial attendees.
